How to find a good doctor in Croatia
Choosing the right doctor is one of the most important healthcare decisions. Croatia has 4,937 active doctors across 503 locations. The problem is that information is scattered across many different sources. Phone numbers may be outdated. Opening hours may be incorrect. HZZO status can be unclear.
On mojausluga.hr, we combine data from HZZO, NRPZZ, and Google reviews into one searchable directory. Each profile contains practice information, HZZO contract status, location, and contact details. You can filter by specialty, location, or show only doctors with an HZZO contract.
The recommendation system ranks doctors by profile completeness and patient ratings. At the top of the list, you see doctors with available contacts, opening hours, good ratings, and complete data. We do not sell positions in the list.

How to change your doctor
You have the right to change your doctor once a year, without giving a reason. It is enough to go to the new practice with your health insurance card. The whole process can also be done online through the e-HZZO system on the e-Građani portal.

How can I find a doctor near me?
Enter a doctor name or choose a location from the dropdown at the top of the page. You can filter by specialty, such as dentistry, general practice, gynecology, or pediatrics, and by HZZO contract status. Each profile shows the practice address, phone number, and patient ratings where available.
How do I change my family doctor or dentist?
You have the right to change your selected doctor once a year without giving a reason. Go to the new practice with your health insurance card and sign the doctor-change statement. You can also do this online through the e-HZZO system on the e-Građani portal. The previous doctor cannot block the change. The full process takes up to 10 days.
What does it mean if a doctor has an HZZO contract?
A doctor with an HZZO contract provides services covered by mandatory health insurance. For basic examinations and services, you usually do not pay out of pocket, or you pay only a minimal participation fee. Use the HZZO filter to see only contracted doctors.
What should I do if a doctor is not accepting new patients?
Each doctor has a legally defined maximum number of patients. For general practice it is 2,125, for dental medicine 2,375, and for pediatrics 1,190. If a doctor says they have no available places, check the e-HZZO search to see which nearby doctors are still accepting patients.
What is the difference between a private doctor and an HZZO doctor?
An HZZO doctor works under contract with public health insurance. Visits are free or include only minimal participation. A private doctor does not have an HZZO contract and charges according to their own price list. Many doctors do both: they have HZZO patients and offer private services at a higher price for a faster appointment.
Can I choose a doctor outside my city?
Yes. For specialists such as gynecologists, pediatricians, and dermatologists, you can choose any doctor in Croatia. For a family doctor, it matters that the doctor has an HZZO contract and available patient capacity. This is especially useful for people who commute daily to a larger city.
